Doherty, Make History
Babyshambles-Down in Albion
So here it is, the debut album from Pete Doherty’s notorious Babyshambles. It seems hard to believe that this lot haven’t actually released an album with all the hype and tabloid tittle-tattle that has been flying around for the best part of 18 months, the singles Killamangiro and Fuck Forever the only official output during this turbulent time hinting at the possibilities of a half decent album. At a little over an hour long and 16 tracks the boy is obviously creative, but hard-working- hmmm??????
I’ll admit I am not the biggest fan of Pete or The Libertines for that matter who I think are hugely over-rated but there have been one or two decent tunes from them and I would love there to be a truly great album from the ashes of these supposed geniuses but I don’t think this it. It will sell by the shedload and maybe surprise people who see him as the crackhead waster the press portrays him as but its not gonna change the world or indeed, the music world. I still think it may be possible for Pete to come up with something amazing if he doesn’t end up as the Rock and Roll martyr that the tabloids so want him to become but for now, settle for this and wait for Dirty Pretty Things and 2006 the year of the (Arctic) Monkey!
too late its gone!
