Neil Diamond in Oasis Rip-Off Shocker!!!!!!!!
Neil Diamond has gone and done what Johnny Cash did and recorded and album with bearded production god Rick Rubin, and it may not be very rock and roll to say it but the resulting album is marvellous.
12 Songs, just released in the US of A is actually 13 cuts of acoustic based loveliness that sounds as raw as some of The Man In Black’s tracks on the American Recording albums. The difference here is that Diamond chose not to record cover versions, unlike Cash who did so with great effect on his Rubin produced records.
Having said that, I think one track sounds very very familiar to these ears, may be just a coincidence but the start of track 6 sounds a lot Oasis’ recent number 1 Lyla, see what you think.
That song is Delirious Love available here.
Makes a change, someone ripping off Oasis, the amount of stuff Noel has ‘borrowed’ from other artists has been widely documented over the years. B-Side Step Out was Stevie Wonder’s Uptight, and Whatever was a hell of a lot like this next song.
Neil Innes - How Sweet To Be An Idiot
Neil Innes was a member of The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and a musical conspirator of the Monty Python Team, this song was an interlude on their Hollywood Bowl live recording and a young Noel G must have heard that songs melody and thought “Yeah, I’m having that!” because as you’ll hear, it is quite a wholesale duplicate of a particular melody in Innes song.
To further muddy this tale of plagiarism, or homage if you like Innes was the main man in The Rutles-a TV sketch, turned movie turned recording pastiche of The Beatles. If you haven’t seen the film The Rutles, you should, it’s a very funny mockumentary which predates This Is Spinal Tap by a few years and must surely have been an influence on that great cinematic treat.
The Rutles songs have amazing attention to detail in their copying of The Beatles sound(like Oasis huh?) but are also great songs in their own right.
Try this ‘version’ of I Am The Walrus, its great.
The Rutles – Piggy In The Middle
Thats your lot for now, gonna try and get these uploads working somehow, it’s a shame because I have a great Radio Kickabout waiting for the world, if anyone wants a CDR copy of it get in touch and I’ll see what I can rustle up(for a small fee!!!!!!).
Futures.
