FIVE RANDOM CHOONS

Been having problems uploading of late, maybe I’m a little impatient? Hmmm????!!!!!! I’ve got a great Radio Kickabout coming your way soon enough but for now here’s a little package of random songs from back in the day that might be a little less known, songs that I loved then and can still listen to now without thinking “What was I on?”!!

Scarce - All Sideways
Scarce were formed from the ashes of cult early 90s Boston band Anastasia Screamed by Chick Graning, ex-fiance of Tanya Donnelly. They released one album Deadsexy which is really quite good, you should hunt for it. This was one of the fine singles from that record.

Sammy - Babe Come Down
Sammy came along in about 1993, sounding a lot like a Noo Yoik Pavement, I think this sounds a hell of a lot like Malkmus’ boys, but I like it because of that. They appeared on car crash TV show The Word playing this song, before releasing another record and the lead singer Jesse Hartman became Laptop who were quite good also.

Cornershop – 6AM Jullander Shere
A more well known band, but a pre-fame track from Tjinder and the boys. Inbetween baiting Mozzer and getting to number 1, Cornershop released an LP entitled “Womans Got To Have It”, which this hypnotising hindi chanted prayer song appeared on. This song was played all the time on the early test transmissions of London’s XFM.

Eat – Shame
I really couldn’t remember much about this lot. (Male)Singer called Ange, supported The Wonder Stuff loads, released an album called “Epicure” and had this great single which was also on heavy rotation in the early days of XFM.

Libido – Overthrown
This lot were a kind of Norwegian Bends era Radiohead, this single came from their album “Killing Some Dead Time” and charted in the low top 40 in 1998.They split up and singer Even Johanson became Magnet, who are actually quite famous now.
