But some charity shops are o.k. take the Barnado’s shop in Brixton although there are no orphaned children to be seen at all. However there does seem to be a generous donor of goods who frequents this particular store. At the moment there are a load of promos by bands generally on the XL Recordings label on sale instore and that means rarities by the likes of Davendra Banhart, Badly Drawn Boy, M.I.A and The White Stripes amongst others, if you are in that area you should have a look, not only is it a good cause but you might find some good music for cheap like I did. I came across this XL album; I remember it getting good reviews in 2004.
The Radio Dept – Lesser Matters
This Swedish band sound untypical to the sort of jingly jangly indie-pop that we have heard from that country’s usual exports such as The Wannadies or Shout Out Louds and have chosen to recreate the sounds of the southern counties of England circa 1991 with this homage to the shoegazer scene of the time. Fans of bands such as Slowdive, Ride et al will appreciate this as one of the better acts that have come from the burgeoning new shoegaze scene over the last few years.

Arctic Monkeys – Live at KultKomplex Kafe, Koeln 17/1/06
So it likes like those little Arctic Monkey scamps have set the charts alight (and remember where you heard them first!)and everyone loves them and the backlash isn’t due for a few months…………………..
WELL THE OFFICIAL ARCTIC MONKEYS BACKLASH STARTS HERE!!!!!!!
Well I say backlash but I actually like them but I just thought I’d be controversial and grab a bit of attention, much like the whole of the British press pack have been doing in their plaudits since they knew that they would be big, But anyway, a few minor gripes……….
- The NME declares the album the 5th Best British Album Ever, two days after it is released, a bit over the top don’t you think. Lets see if its still there in 20 years huh?
- Alex Turner(Coolest Person In Rock 2005!!), is supposed to be this lyrical genius up there with Morrissey, Dylan and Andre and yes he has a decent turn of phrase here and there but there was one word he uses in Dancing Shoes that I had to look up in the dictionary, that word is OBSURD. Click on that word and look up what it means at this online dictionary, go on…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..that’s right it doesn’t mean anything, its not a word, it doesn’t exist. I think the word he is looking for is this one ABSURD. Pedantic??? Maybe, but I’m right, he’s wrong!!!!
- Er,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, that’s it actually. I do actually really like them.
There has been a live set knocking around taken from German radio which is well worth having but the mp3s were unnamed from the original source so I’ve marked them up for your delectation, download the lot at the link below. It is a great set with some good on stage banter and some Germans chatting in between songs(that’s my favourite bit!) and it is one way to avoid paying the £80 that tickets are going for on eBay for the NME shows.
DON’T BE OBSURD, DOWNLOAD THIS REET GOOD SET NOW, HERE, NOW, THANKS

CHRIS MORRIS – BLUE JAM
Chris Morris is God. If you are unfamiliar with the comedy of Chris Morris then get yourself wise by downloading this selection of weird sketches accompanied by monged out music by the likes of Jimi Tenor, Amon Tobin, Propellorheads and Aphex Twin, its great late night listening for those not of a nervous disposition.
I originally uploaded this for a great thread on skafunkrastapunk that collects a load of great albums as this one is on the WARP label, which like those cheeky Arctic Monkeys is based in Sheffield.
If you can help uploading anything that is missing from the list or you want to sample stuff by the likes of Squarepusher, Aphex Twin and Nightmares On Wax then head to THIS THREAD.
CACKLE MY GLADYS, HERE. NOW
That’ll do for now, toodlepip!
