More leaks than the whole of Wales...........

Holy living fuck its been a good week for leaks!!!! New tracks from Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Morrissey among others and full albums from the likes of The Flaming Lips, Grandaddy, The Concretes and Johnny Boy has meant that my hard drive is positively bursting at the seams(I actually do have a knitted PC!),all good stuff that I have been waiting for for ages which doesn’t disappoint. Formed in 1994, Denver Colorado’s THE CZARS have been quietly making great music since day one. From the early self-released albums Moodswing and La Brea Tar Pits of Routine through to the recently released covers album Sorry I Made You Cry this band have been garnering critical plaudits but have never had the success they deserve.
If you have never heard the band then you won’t have heard THE VOICE! John Grant, the singer in the band has an amazingly versatile voice on record which veers between a Patsy Cline-like country yodel to a warm rich croon, often in the same line of a song. Live though, Grants voice is at its most impressive. I had the good fortune to have seen The Czars a couple of times over the years and I can honestly say he had the best singing voice I have ever heard live.
The music can be an odd mix as well, countryesque songs sit next to rich atmospheric laden epics and short sharp pop songs and comparisons have been made to all sorts of artists but really they are quite unique, a countryish Radiohead probably the best description I’ve heard of them.
It now seems that The Czars as found on this little compilation are no more as this seemingly bitter history overview suggests, however a new start for John Grant seems to be on the cards with gigs at this years SXSW festival supporting The Flaming Lips among a few others listed on The Czars MYSPACE site.
