Dream Brother :The Songs Of Tim + Jeff Buckley

What can you say about Tim and Jeff Buckley? Anything you like they are dead! But seriously what can you say that hasn’t been said before, not a great deal. Jeff seems to be better known than his father was but both had relatively low sales while they were alive. In the wake of Jeff Buckley’s album Grace and his untimely death, many a band could be heard trying to recreate his sound which paved the way for the massive commercial success of bands like Coldplay and Keane. Tim Buckley’s album Starsailor gave the name to that ‘wonderful’ band, but don’t hold that against him, its not as if he had an album called Toploader, or James Blunt for that matter.
Both were superb artists and both have been influential beyond their short years.
This latest compilation has interpretations of both artists’ songs by several of the leading lights of the new British folky types such as Adem, Kathryn Williams and King Creosote and star turns from The Magic Numbers and Sufjan Stevens. While not bringing anything earth-shattering to these songs there are good performances all round and if you know of any of the Buckley’s music there will be something here to interest you. I particularly like King Creosote’s take on Jeff’s Grace.
See what you think!
